Newcastle’s most expensive postcode: 2291

For a long time, 2291 has been Newcastle’s most desirable postcode. With a median price close to $2m, the trio of Merewether, Merewether Heights and The Junction are the most expensive around.

With direct access to the city’s best beach (whether you surf, swim laps, build sandcastles or just want a coffee), it’s no surprise that prices are so high.

Property is slightly cheaper in The Junction as it’s not directly beachside, but just a short drive or cycle gets you to the ocean. You also have the benefit of a supermarket, a short walk to school and the best doughnut shop in the city.

The next most expensive: 2300

With a median property price of $1.6m, 2300 is another popular postcode that includes Bar Beach, Cooks Hill, Newcastle, Newcastle East and The Hill. With a mix of beaches and old town, this area is Newcastle at its best.

Even within this suburb there’s a huge range in prices, with Bar Beach properties far higher than The Hill, for example.

There’s a strong theme with Newy’s most expensive areas: beaches, historic buildings and facilities.

The 2302 postcode is home to Cooks Hill and Newcastle West. Say hello to Bar Beach, Darby Street and all the delights you can find by jumping on the tram.
