Newcastle’s property market has some of the country’s most beautiful homes and businesses, and this winter has seen an unusually high number of once-in-a-generation listings.
Whether you want a modern hospitality business, historic buildings dating back to the 1800s or some of the best views in Australia, June and July has seen some incredible properties for sale.
Merewether Surfhouse
Listed on the market for the first time ever, the multi-level hospitality venue on Merewether Beach is a highly sought-after property.
Currently housing a cafe, bar, function rooms and takeaway kiosk, it’s a great spot to meet friends. Floor to ceiling windows and outdoor seating give incredible views over the beach and ocean.
A price for the Surfhouse isn’t listed, but expressions of interest close on 20 August 2026.
Lambton’s historic post office
One of Lambton’s oldest buildings, this property originally served as a post and telegraph office when it was built in 1884.

New Lambton home listed for first time in 40 years
Found in the back streets of New Lambton, this five-bedroom home has been in the Piggott family (of Piggott’s Pharmacy fame) has been listed for the first time in almost four decades.

Newcastle’s biggest sale of 2026
It may come as no surprise that Newcastle’s most expensive property this year was in Merewether, with an off-market purchase going for $8.15m last month.
The six-bedroom property on Hickson Street last sold for $5.9m in 2021, and has some incredible features. An ultramodern design with tinted windows, 270° views across city and coast, inground pool, four-car garage and the list goes on.
The old Maitland bank (Mansfield House)
Slightly further away, but this three-storey property in Maitland is a rare listing. Built in 1887, the bank’s old vault is still in place but the rest of the building has been transformed.
